NAAA Joins Coalition Urging Congress to Extend Pesticide Review Deadline
NAAA has joined the Pesticide Policy Coalition and other agricultural organizations in urging congressional leaders to extend the Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) pesticide registration review deadline. Read the Pesticide Policy Coalition letter here.
Under the Federal Insecticide, Fungicide, and Rodenticide Act (FIFRA), EPA is required to review pesticide registrations every 15 years to ensure products continue to meet current health, environmental and scientific standards. The registration review process has been delayed as EPA works to incorporate advances in risk assessment models, exposure estimates and other scientific and technical processes.
Congress previously extended the deadline for certain pesticide registrations through Oct. 1, 2026. With the deadline passed, the coalition is urged Congress to include another extension in the Farm Bill or other appropriate legislation. Both the House-passed and Senate Agriculture Committee-passed Farm Bills include provisions to extend the registration review deadline.
For aerial applicators, maintaining an effective and science-based pesticide regulatory system is critical. Pesticide products are essential tools for agricultural production, and NAAA supports a regulatory process that allows EPA to conduct thorough reviews while ensuring growers and applicators have continued access to necessary crop protection products.
NAAA will continue to advocate for policies that support the availability of crop protection tools and a predictable, science-based regulatory process for agricultural aviation.
