NAAA Updates National Corn Growers Association on Spray Modeling Modernization Progress
NAAA recently provided the National Corn Growers Association (NCGA) with an update on the NAAA-led AGDISP Modernization Project (AMP). The AGDISP model simulates what happens to spray after it is released and dispersed from a sprayer. AGDISP characterizes spray deposition over and downwind of the target and can be used for aerial, ground, and airblast applications. It is used by the EPA to determine if a pesticide can be applied by ag aircraft. It needs to be modernized to ensure EPA can model future developments in drift reduction technology.
AMP is the NAAA-led effort to accomplish this needed modernization. The project requires $600,000 to complete, and NCGA contributed to the project last year. They requested an overview and update on the project for their Production and Sustainability Action Team. NAAA met with their team and reviewed AGDISP, the need for modernization, and how the new model will benefit not only corn growers and aerial applicators, but everyone involved in agriculture.
